Interpreting
I will assist you with all your multilingual needs so that you can communicate with your partners in a smooth and effortless manner, whether at conferences, in business meetings or in court. If I do not speak the language you are looking for, I can recommend suitable interpreters or translators from my network of qualified colleagues.
Court Interpreting
As a sworn Court Interpreter, I can assist you if you do not speak the language used in court. Apart from interpreting what is said during the hearing, I am also happy to translate any legal documents for you, such as powers of attorney or the verdict, either before or after the hearing.
Simultaneous Interpreting
When simultaneous interpreting is used, a team of at least two interpreters works in a soundproof booth and transmits what is being said in real time. You will be able to listen to the interpretation via headphones and follow the presentation as it happens. This kind of interpreting is normally used at large conferences.
Liaison Interpreting
Liaison interpreting involves me sitting with you at the conference table and acting as a bridge between you and a counterpart. I make sure that nothing stands in the way of a smooth negotiation process. Each contribution is interpreted directly into the other language, one after the other.
Consecutive Interpreting
Consecutive Interpreting involves me taking notes on what is said using a special and unique note-taking technique, after which I render what has been said in the target language. Therefore, not only are excellent language skills required, but the ability to grasp the message of the subject matter, a solid note-taking technique, and an attentive memory.

Translation
I do not only translate words, but information. This means I provide you with natural translations that do not sound translated. Producing high-quality translations requires an understanding of the intention behind the words and delivering it adequately in the target language, understanding the topic of the text, being familiar with various cultural contexts, and using key terms in the correct context. I also give meaning to untranslatable words and concepts so that your information reaches your audience purposefully and accurately.
My standard software tool is SDL Trados Studio 2021, but I am also happy to provide you with translations in Memsource, Across or in-house translation tools. Not sure about the advantages of CAT (computer assisted translation) tools or how you can benefit from them? Get in touch!

A Passionate Language Expert: About Me
The person behind „The Language Expert“ is me, Fenja Nicholls. Since my childhood I have been fascinated by languages and foreign cultures, and during my studies and various stays abroad, this fascination grew into my passion.
My passion has become my profession.
At only 17 years old, after a year abroad in Québec (Canada), I obtained the French language diploma DALF C2 (native level). During my studies, I was able to expand and deepen my linguistic and cultural skills in French and English. I also spent time abroad in Lyon (FR), Chicago (IL, USA), London (UK) and Brussels (BE). During my last stay in Brussels, I also discovered my love for the Dutch language, which I added to the list of my working languages in 2018.
Yet, language skills alone do not make excellent translators and interpreters.
Comprehensive training in translation or interpreting is also crucial. In 2017, I graduated with both a master’s degree in Conference Interpreting as well as a master’s degree in Translation with a specialisation in law. Since then, I have been continuously expanding my skills and expertise through further trainings and seminars. For example, in 2017, I completed a seminar about the German legal language (Kenntnisse der deutschen Rechtssprache), and in 2018 and 2019, I took part in further trainings on topics related to criminal law.
